Our Anglers Are Leaving With Sore Arms!

Wahoo

As we get into the middle of February, the fishing continues to be good on some days and not so great other days.  The one thing that has been consistent is the shark fishing.  We are seeing sharks on the surface as well as getting bites on the deep baits while drift fishing.

There has been some nice NE winds lately and even though that is really good for Sailfish, the sailfishing has been unusually slow, until today!  Today, we finally got into the them good and caught 4 fish on one trip.  I hope this is a sign of things to come for our anglers on board with us.  Looking at the forecast I see light winds and flat calm seas.  While this is far more comfortable and enjoyable for most of our guest, we usually don’t get into the sailfish well.

Writing this report and rigging up for tomorrow’s Fort Lauderdale Fishing trip, I am looking at the wind forecast as well as the tides.  With east winds 10-15 knots and seas 2-4 feet, I plan to work the edge early for sailfish, king mackeral, wahoo, and mahi.  The days we have current, we have been catching fish. Early last week had a beautiful wahoo eat on the troll.
Wahoo
A wahoo is one of the fastest species we have in South Florida and quite the catch. It is not everyday we get into them, but we do catch our fair share because we troll bonita strips on planers quite often.  We also get them when kite fishing for sailfish as well, but far more when trolled up.
On the reef there has been no shortage of barracudas and sharks.  Our anglers have been staying busy reeling in these drag screamers.  The sharks have been from 40 pounds to over 500 pounds depending on species. Check out these pair of cudas caught on the troll.

On the drift boat: the Lois Ann – our anglers have been on a hot streak on the grouper.  I always say there are no fences when fishing on the Lois Ann. You have the opportunity to catch all the big game fish we catch on the sportfising boats, however you have a higher chance of catching grouper and all for only $45!  You are generally fishing the bottom where the grouper live in their holes and come out to feed on bait fish such as ballyhoo, pilchards and other small reef fish.  Here our angler got a nice one!

Getting closer to March, we are getting to the peak season for South Florida. Now is the time to book your spring fishing trip.  From March through June you have the opportunity at red hot sail fishing, blackfin tuna, wahoo, mahi and more!  The spring is my favorite time of the year as our anglers get to experience the most consistent bite.
My advice is once you know your dates, please give me a call to reserve them as we fill up fast.  That’s the report for now. We will be back out tomorrow. Follow us on Instagram or Facebook to see live fishing reports.
