9 ft Scalloped Hammerhead Shark in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

March 3rd, 2010
Phil, Ted & Doc set sail on a shared charter this afternoon with the Lady Pamela II. Trolling with fresh bonito strips was the first thing on our to-do list. As soon as we hit the 190 ft mark, we hooked a double header Blackfin Tuna. This was the spot; we circled 190 – 220 ft of water and the bite was nearly instant. Double headers, triple headers, we ended up with 2 Bonito fish & 16 Blackfin’s anywhere from 4 – 18 lbs, talk about a tasty dinner. After our anglers had the dinner situation covered, we moved to 350 ft of water looking for a big bite. “Not everybody get up at once.” Remember that? Let’s just say it wasn’t an instant bite. An hour passed before the balloon bait went under and the rod doubled over. I punched the boat ahead and line was literally peeling off the 130. Doc jumped into the chair, we strapped him in and the battle began. Doc did a fantastic job; he hung in there for an hour until his 9 ft Scalloped Hammerhead Shark appeared below him.
