Sailfish fishing

September 15, 2015
The winds kicked up today blowing about 15-25 knots out of the southeast. It was the first day we have kite fished in a few months. We started the trip out trolling, catching blackfin tunas, bonitos and a kingfish using feathers tipped with bonito belly strips behind planers. We found these fish anywhere from 100 to 280 feet of water. We finally put up the kites with live baits, and in no time hooked up a nice big Atlantic sailfish. He was feisty fish that took almost 30 minutes to get to the boat. We wrapped up the day with a couple of drops on the bottom. On our last drop we got a big bite that turned out to be a big fat seven foot hammerhead shark. Great fishing!
