South Florida - 2007
|

December 2007
The month of December really starts the red-hot sailfish action.
With the cold fronts moving down the sailfish are migrating heavily.
We can also expect to catch Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo and Kingfish.
This is the time of year that all of the Charter Fleet gets very busy.
So if you are planning on fishing while in South Florida, book your
dates early to guarantee your days on our upcoming schedule.

November 2007
The last few weeks we have caught a lot of sailfish on the edge of
the Gulf stream in 120-180 feet of water.
Kite fishing with live goggle eyes has been the most productive method.
There have been some Mahi-Mahi trolling offshore, along with a few Wahoo’s.
We boated a thirty pounder last week. In addition, kingfish have been abundant.
WRECK FISHING
Has been hit and miss with some amberjacks and groupers.
EVENING FISHING
Inshore the Tarpon fishing has been phenomenal.
Offshore, the nighttime swordfishing has been very productive. With
the cooler weather, there is a lot of tinker mackerel around that the swordfish
feed on heavily.

October 2007
In case you missed us, we spent the month of October in the boat yard.
We re-powered with Cummins 370 diesels.
We did some interior and exterior paintwork, new modern helm and controls.
General maintenance and safety upgrades.
The whole crew pulled together for a 45-day marathon.
With the new power, the Lady Pamela II is the fastest charter boat
to the fishing grounds.
Come check us out.

It is nice to have a few days off!
Captain David here to report that the fishing in the Bahamas is as good
as ever.
After all these days of fishing I decided to join the folks, along with
Denis Casper and Capt. Dudley Smart in Bimini for a few days of relaxation.
What else - more fishing.
I took them over a nice grass bed in 65' of water, looking for some
flag yellowtail. The sky was clear ,the sun was hot, the bite was not.
We caught a lot of jacks, some spanish mackerel and way too many triggerfish.
We used some jacks to entertain the local sharks. they were big and they
were hungry. only three yellowtail.
The tide hadn't turned enough to get more, and my crew was ready to
get wet. So off we went in search of some lobster. We found plenty of Bahamian
lobsterman had beat us to our spots. But we did get our limit(6).
The seas were like glass, and our 27' Oceanmaster runs like a hurricane
with its new 250 Evinrude E-Techs. Well back to the work that I enjoy way
too much.

July 29, 2007
We have had some great weather these past weeks. The seas have been
calm and the fishing is great.
We have been catching a lot of good size kingfish, along with bonitos
and a few dolphin.
The sharks have been biting when we target them. Also some nice vermillion
snapper are on the reefs. The swordfish have been steady too.

The wind has finally let up
Fishing for Mahi-mahi has been good. Schools of fish from 3 to 7 lbs
are being caught in 300 to 800’ of water. There have been some bigger fish
any where from 12 to 25 miles offshore.
The Sailfish and sharks are still around when we get enough wind to
fly the kites with live bait.
The King Mackerel are here one day and gone the next. Some Bonito are
on the reefs and are showing up more and more each day.
Snapper and grouper fishing around the wrecks and reef have been decent.
We did catch and release a nice sized Goliath Grouper (ex-Jewfish) off
of a wreck last week.
With the afternoon thunderstorms, the fishing gets tough late in the
day. Swordfishing at night has been decent, but we have to watch the weather.
Let’s go fishing! Capt.David and Crew, Lady Pamela II |

Let's go Fishing
The Mahi-Mahi are still biting.
As our last report, we thought this was the best Mahi-mahi (Dolphin
fish) season that we had seen in quite a few years. Well they keep on coming.
Fish over 50 pounds are still being reported every other day. We had one
over 30 lbs and we have caught quite a few gaffers along with all the schoolies
you want to catch.
The King Mackerel are still biting with the larger ones eating live
bait on the downrigger and out of the kite.
A few Blackfin Tuna are mixed in too.
The wrecks are still producing some Amberjacks, but most of the fish
have moved off the wrecks. That leaves a few Mutton Snappers and Groupers
on the wrecks with Bull Sharks always lurking around.
Swordfishing is decent, but it sure has been blowing. Boats are averaging
a fish a night. Nothing red hot, but... All in all, the fishing is still
pretty good. Even a few Sailfish around if you put your time in fishing
for them.

Corporate Charter a Success!
We had a charter for what was supposed to be a group of 34 internet
technology executives, staying in Miami Beach for meetings. As it turned
out only 14 got off when the charter bus arrived. After many phone calls
and a lot of organizing, ordering food, bait and buses, we pulled it off
wonderfully.
With the help of my charter boat friends, we set out for an afternoon
of fishing.
First stop Rays live bait.
Capt. Mike on Local Knowledge was first out the inlet (no way was he
was letting Capt. Taco take the lead), followed by Hooked Up, Tacos boat.
Then it was Lady Pamela with Capt. JJ, tailed by Capt. Wally on the Reel
Work. Last but not least, was Monster with Capt. Kenny.
The guests were from all over, Denmark, Poland, India, Germany and the
USA. They were all gung ho and ready to fish. The seas were very calm and
the day was nice and sunny.
The count when back at the dock was easy, only Wally’s’ boat brought
fish back, a few kings. They released a sailfish and a bonito. Local Knowledge
caught and released a sailfish. Hooked Up had a sailfish release. Lady
Pamela reported catching a mackerel and seeing a hammerhead along side,
but he already had his lunch. Monster caught and released three sharks.
By the time all the boats dropped off their guests, they were a little
pink and were all smiling. I heard from the exec that was one of my contacts,
that everyone agreed that they would come fishing with us on their next
visit.
Thanks to all the captains and mates that were there for me. I could
not have done this without you guys.

Capt. Chris was on the boat this past Friday and says it does not get
much better. They caught everything from kings, a black fin tuna, and a
wahoo. The biggest surprise was a swordfish during the day in 350' of water
at 11:00 in the morning.
Capt. Chris was quite pleased, as was the grandfather and the grandkids.

Sailfish, Sailfish, Sailfish
This past week was the Fort Lauderdale Billfish tournament. The tournament
reported record numbers of sailfish, along with a great kingfish
bite. Most boats caught an average of 8 sailfish, in 3 days of fishing.
Besides the great sailfish bite, there was a lot of wahoo caught on
the reef. We caught 6 in a four hour trip on February 12.
A lot of the boats have been swordfishing, with some very good luck...Most
ranging from 60-80 lbs.
