Poppa Johns Pizza Family

This morning, Pauli and I had Annette, and her son Bo, came fishing with us. We picked up some live goggleyes by Lauderdale Marina, and on the way out we explained all about the type of fishing we had planned. This time of year kite fishing is the most productive type of fishing one can do. It involves flying two specially designed kites from the bridge of the boat, with live baits such as goggleyes, sardines, pilchards or threadfin herrings suspended on release clips beneath the kites. The kites keep the live baits right on the surface, but well away from the drifting boat. Kite fishing in the winter months is highly productive for sailfish, but wahoo, tunas, and mahi-mahi are often caught as well. Anyway, today I wanted to try to hook up 12 year old Bo, who had never been deep sea fishing before, with a sailfish. We popped the kites up right in front of the whistle buoy, in about 110 feet of water. In two hours we caught a kingfish and jumped off one sailfish. Sometimes you just can’t catch everything that bites. Regardless, we put out a fresh set of live baits on the kites and in 30 minutes we hooked another sailfish. This time things went in our favor, even with the sailfish jumping all over the ocean and putting on a good show! It took Bo a good 20 minutes to reel the 6 ½ footer to the boat, where we tagged it and set it free. By the way, I forgot to mention that seas were running about 10 foot that day. Good job Annette and Bo!

Max Pacioretty Aug 5, 2011

 August 5

Max Pacioretty, left wing for the Montreal Canadiens, and his family fished with us today. We bought a dozen goggleyes in the morning, on the way out, and started the trip trolling the reef. The fishing action was nonstop for two plus hours. We caught 5 kingfish and 10 bonita. The bonita were swimming north in 100′ of water, in schools of thousands. It  was a sight to see for the whole trip. Maxs’ mother in-law was getting a little seasick so we tried some shark fishing for about an hour, with no bites.  Max said lets reel them up and go home because everyone was getting a little seasick.  As the last shark bait was being reeled in, I saw three huge mahi mahi swim by the boat. I ran up in the tower and started yelling at my mate Pauly to grab some spinning rods. As I was re-positioning the boat to find the fish Pauly was getting a goggleye out of the live well.  I pointed out  the fish to Pauly, he pitched the bait, and the fight was on with a 25 lb. mahi mahi.  I told Pauly there were more  fish there so he grabbed another spinner, and pitched a goggleye. It was another hookup and Rod Sergay , Max’s father-in-law boated a 30 plus lb’er. What  a great way to end a morning fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale! Come join us!

Chris Pronger of the Philadelphia Flyers fishing aboard the Lady Pamela IV

Saturday, February 12th, 2011

Chris Pronger of the Philadelphia Flyers came fishing aboard the Lady Pamela IV two days in a row and had great success fishing offshore in Fort Lauderdale. The first day of fishing was great. The bite wasn’t instant, but everyone’s patience paid off. We didn’t get a bite for almost 3 hours and then at the very last minute, we hooked a huge Sailfish. Chris reeled in a 70 lb Atlantic Sailfish and then booked a fishing trip for the next morning because he had such a good time fishing. The next day we left the dock at 8 AM and headed offshore to try our luck Big Game Shark Fishing. We put our all of the 130 reels out with big 5lb King Mackerel bait on the end. The bait sat in 350 ft of water for almost 3 hours before we decided to make a move into shallower water. Shortly after we relocated, we got a big bite. Chris fought a Sicklefin, Greater Hammerhead all the way to the transom. We look forward to fishing with you again, Chris!

Fort Lauderdale Sport Fishing with Channing Crowder of the Miami Dolphins

Monday, June 28th, 2010

June 19th, 2010

Channing Crowder of the Miami Dolphins joined Captain Paul and myself for a deep sea fishing adventure in Fort Lauderdale aboard the Lady Pamela II. Once we poked out of Port Everglades, we headed north and immediately started catching some Blackfin Tuna’s, King Mackerel and 10 Bonito fish on the troll. Once we got to the steaple, we put out a big, bloody shark bait down below to hook Channing up with a big fish. After 25 minutes of fishing and not catching, we were hooked. Channing won the battle with the Bull Shark while suspended over the water in our articulating fighting chair; it was exciting just watching! After Channing caught his Game Shark, we expertly released him back into the blue for a future fight. We trolled our way back to Fort Lauderdale and ended the day with a nice Mahi - Mahi Dolphin fish and 10 more Bonito fish. Fishing in Fort Lauderdale was awesome today.

Fishing in Ft Lauderdale with the Texas Rangers; Big Warsaw Grouper fish!

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

June 14th, 2010

Today, Scott Feldman, Frank Francisco and Darren O’Day of the Texas Rangers baseball team joined their two friends aboard the Lady Pamela II for a 5 hr fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale. Fishing was so slow; we tried our hardest to put our anglers on some fish, but if they are not hungry they are not going to eat. Finally, towards the end of our fishing trip we landed a 60 lb Warsaw Grouper fish and one King Mackerel. They could feed the team with that Grouper.

Morning Fishing Trip 8-12

Ville aboard the Lady Pamela II

Ville hooked up!

My buddy Joe and his son are huge hockey fans, especially when it comes to the Florida Panthers. Joe, his son and the Panthers defenseman, Ville Koistinen, joined the Lady Pamela II for a deep sea fishing charter to have some fun. Fishing was a little slow in the beginning and after two hours of waiting, we finally got the bite. Ville was the first runner up and jumped in the chair to win the fight. Ville won the 30-minute battle against a 6-foot Game Shark. Nice catch!

Pittsburgh Steelers Linebacker James Harrison Fishing aboard the Lady Pamela II in Ft Lauderdale, Florida

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

January 27th, 2010

Fort Lauderdale is brining in the New Year with several exciting events. The Super Bowl is back to South Florida for a record breaking 10th time and the Pro Bowl is honoring all star players somewhere other than Hawaii for the first time since 1979, Fort Lauderdale, Florida!

With that said, there are A list players and many devoted fans in Fort Lauderdale for the two biggest games of the year. James Harrison of the Pittsburgh Steelers joined Captain Paul and me aboard the Lady Pamela II for a deep sea fishing adventure with his friends and family before the big game this Sunday.

James wanted to battle with something as big as him so we picked up the necessities (live goggle eyes) and headed offshore. Once we reached our destination, our spread consisted of 4 live goggle eyes dancing on the surface and 2 big shark baits below. We waited patiently for 45 minutes before the right short got a hit. Captain Paul set the hook and we were ready. James jumped into our ultimate fighting chair and the battle began off the transom. Our first Sailfish of the day totally impressed our anglers; both the fight and the missing bill.

James’ brother fought Sailfish #2 and once he got the fish to the boat it decided it wasn’t finished. James’ brother did a pass off to Dad, who decided to fight the Sailfish standing up rather than over the water. Job well done, we went 2 for 2 with two very nice fish. Our last stop of the day was at a shipwreck for James’ nephew. Our first bait on the bottom intrigued an Amberjack within minutes. Sea ya on the water…

John Casablanca Model lands Atlantic Sailfish while Fishing in Ft. Lauderdale

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

November 17th, 2009

This afternoon, Jessica, the owner of John Casablanca Modeling, joined her friends from Sweden aboard the Lady Pamela for some deep sea sport fishing offshore. Jessica’s dream was to land a big game fish so live goggle eyes were a must on the way out. We started off trolling catching Bonito fish left and right before we preformed live bait kite fishing. We popped the kites in 180 ft of water at the whistle buoy and crossed our fingers for bite. Within 20 minutes of fishing and not catching I noticed a free jumper to the north. We picked up, ran to the action and within minutes Captain Paul hooked a double header. Jessica was stoked. She jumped in the fighting chair as John went on the bow of the boat, ready to reel. After an exciting 45 minute battle between both fish, we were successful and several high fives were given on the way in.

Miami Dolphin’s Offensive Lineman lands 40lb Amberjack, Ft Lauderdale Wreck Fishing

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Joe Berger, A.K.A., the Miami Dolphin’s Offensive Lineman, came fishing aboard the Lady Pamela II this afternoon with his two high school buddies from Michigan. They were all down to earth guys that just wanted to catch some fish in South Florida. We started off the afternoon catching live Bonitos for later use on the shipwrecks. However, our plan fell through. We couldn’t catch a Bonito to save our life, they were M.I.A. Right when that went south, I marked a big fish on the bottom. Captain Paul dropped a speedo with a circle hook and a 3 lb lead on the bottom and we crossed our fingers. BAM! A big fish hit the bait and the action lasted for about a minute before we lost him. Captain Paul got creative and dropped a live blue runner down this time and we were hooked. Joe jumped in the fighting chair and was ready. He went to war with an 80 Shimano and 200 lb test line. Joe was getting worked within the first 15 minutes of the fight. He pulled through with a 40lb Amberjack. We got some great pictures and watched him swim away. Trolling gear was in the water, but the fish werent’t. We caught 2 King Mackerel on the troll, it was very, very quiet. If you read our report from the day before, we fought a monster Thresher Shark for over an hour. Once Joe and his buddies saw how tough a 40 lb Amberjack fought, they wanted a taste of something bigger. We popped the kites with a dead bait, a live bait and two dead baits on the bottom. We sat back for an hour without a bite. Captain Paul started to pull the baits and when he was reeling in bait number two a GIANT Mako followed it up to the transom, but never ate. If only it was hungry! It was a bummer, but Joe and his buddies got a good look at a Mako aboard the Lady Pamela II.

Miami Dolphin’s QB Chad Henne lands 88″ Sailfish aboard the Lady Pamela II in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne came deep sea fishing aboard the Lady Pamela II this afternoon for a fun family outing in sunny South Florida. On the way out the Intracoastal we stopped at the marina and filled the well with live bait. Fishing started off slow this morning, not much was around. We popped the kites at the edge with live goggs, hoping to attract something. After an hour of waiting and wishing, a sailfish ate but it immidiately pulled the hook. We hung in there for a little bit longer and Henne fought an 88 incher. Nice catch!

Lito Sheppard of the Philidelphia Eagles fishingaboard the Lady Pamela II in Ft Lauderdale, Florida

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Lito Sheppard of the Philiadelphia Eagles, Chris Baker of the New York Jets and thier buddy Jack from Excel Auto came fishing aboard the Lady Pamela II this morning in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They were all in the mood for fresh fish for dinner, so we headed out the Intracoastal with live bait in the well, ready to catch enough for left overs. Conditions were in our favor for kite fishing today. We headed about a mile offshore, popped the kites on the edge in 120 ft of water with a rippin north current and a steady east wind. Within 40 minutes we hooked a nice size Atlantic Sailfish, had to be about 4 1/2 ft. Lito called first dibs. He hopped in the fighting chair, fought him for about 15 minutes, then pulled the hook.

Wreck fishing was next on the list, but we need live bonitos first. After slamming those, we started hitting every wreck up and down the coast. The 5th wreck we stopped at, we got a bite. Chris Baker was up, but within minutes our second fish of the day pulled the hook. We made a pit stop at the Lighthouse ledge before heading back towards Lauderdale, and good thing we did. It didn’t take us long at the ledge. Baker was hooked within minutes and fought this giant Barracuda for a half an hour.

PBR Professional Bull Rider Chance Smart aboard the LP II

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

PBR Professional Bull Rider Chance Smart came fishing aboard the Lady Pamela II in search of his first saltwater fish. Smart choice; Fort Lauderdale, Florida is well known for it’s world class sportfishing. We headed out Port Everglades with trolling gear ready to go. Fishing was pretty slow, catching a few king mackerels here and there along with some small bonitos. A local ship wreck was next on the list for the Lady Pamela II. First drop of the day and we got a bite. Chance reeled in his first saltwater game fish, a 42″ amberjack.

Plaxico Burress of the New York Giants fishing aboard the Lady Pamela II

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

December 6th, 2008

On Saturday afternoon, Plaxico Burress (NY Giants Wide Reciever) and his buddies came fishing aboard the Lady Pamela II. They flew down from New York to get some South Florida sunshine right here in Fort Lauderdale. Live bait was a must this afternoon. We got a dozen goggle eyes and headed out front to pop the kites for the sailfish and mahi - mahi. The bite has been pretty consistent the past few days. However, fishing started off slow, not much was around. BUT Before we knew it, a sailfish ate the right short bait and started jumping. It put on a good fight and a great show….until he fell off. The bait went back out hoping for another bite. We didn’t get a sailfish bite, but we did manage to catch a few blue runners and vermilion snappers for them to take home for dinner. We were losing daylight quickly and needed it for the type of fishing we wanted to do. They enjoyed themselves and went home with fresh fish.
