Tim, Jerry, Kim and Pete set sail aboard the Lady Pamela II for a 4-hour fishing charter with Captain Paul and me. Once we cleared the inlet, trolling gear went in the water and we expected anything to eat. Within 4 hours of fishing, we caught 4 Blackfin Tuna, 1 King Mackerel and 1 Barracuda; fresh strips and sea witches did the trick.

Now is the time to head offshore for a mixed bag of fish and maybe even a Game Shark.

Jim, David, Jesse and three others joined the Lady Pamela II for a shared fishing charter in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. With six different people on board, everybody wants to do something different, so that was our plan. We started with trolling gear in the water, catching King Mackerel and Bonito fish. Then we relocated with live bait looking for a Shark bite and ended up fighting a Warsaw Grouper. Our last pit stop was to a wreck with a live Bonito and a Barracuda ate. What a day.

February Fishing Report 2010
The New Year surprised Fort Lauderdale with freezing temperatures and great fishing. February crept up on us with chilly afternoons most northerners would consider “warm fronts.” These mild South Florida cold fronts have been consistent and so have the Sailfish, Kingfish, Blackfin Tuna and Game Sharks offshore.
Fort Lauderdale, Florida is known as one of the top Sailfish fishing destinations in the world. Spindle beaks are caught year round in Fort Lauderdale but November through February accounts for 75% of all the Sailfish we catch. South Florida’s “cold weather” really gets these fish feeding, especially when it’s blowing and rippin’ offshore. Kite fishing with live goggle eyes does it every time. On February 11, we headed offshore with John and his buddies from Ontario. Swordfishing wasn’t an option but kite fishing on the reef was. We positioned ourselves on the edge in 150 - 180 ft of water and got the bite immediately. Watching your angler fight his first Sailfish is unbelievable. Now imagine, fighting a Sailfish suspended over the water, within feet of its airborne cartwheels. Talk about excitement.

Sailfish aren’t the only talk of the town; The Game Shark’s have arrived to Fort Lauderdale! Year after year, the Game Sharks make their way south to our backyard and they guarantee a fight. The Lady Pamela II fleet has begun to catch Hammerhead Sharks and even Bull Sharks just a mile from the beach. Fighting these fish is not an easy task. When you think they’ve signed off after a 30 minute fight, they haven’t, you better be ready for another run! Believe me; it’s all worth it in the end when your 7 ft Hammerhead is behind the boat and your up close and personal with a set of man eating teeth. It is totally rewarding.

On the weekend of February 4, the Lady Pamela II shot over to Bimini for a 4 day fishing weekend with a group of guys from Michigan and South Carolina. Fishing was just what we expected, only better. Our goal for day one was to catch dinner. After we cleared customs and got the OK to head offshore, a giant Tiger Shark ate and took us for a run, but only for a minute, literally. Our first bite of the day was a tease but we got a taste and wanted more. Round two produced a nice size Bimini Bull Shark and a fight Alan will never forget. At the end of the day, dinner was MIA but we had a good dock story. Day 2 was a grand slam. More Barracuda than you could shake a stick at, a handful of Amberjacks, a Hound fish and Game Shark #2. By day three, we were beat and the seas weren’t giving in. A White Marlin swam in our spread and ate. What cures sea sickness from 7 footers? A bite from a white. After a 30 minute battle, the Lady Pamela II landed it’s first White Marlin ever. Fishing in the Bahamas never seems to amaze me. The best time to travel to the Bahamas for a deep sea fishing trip is during the summer months when the seas and weather agree with us. Call now to book a summer vacation you’ll never forget, the fish are waiting.

February has been filled with fish of all species, from schools of Mahi Mahi to Amberjacks on the shipwrecks. Check out our updated Captain’s Log at www.ladypamela2.com for daily fishing reports and pictures.

This afternoon, Bill chartered the Lady Pamela II for a 4-hour private charter and wanted just one nice fish. The King Mackerel bite in Fort Lauderdale has been slow for a majority of February, but the past two days they have been chewing off the back of the boat. We trolled to the south because the bite was solid for a short amount of time, and that was about it, a short amount of time. The King Mackerel showed zero interested in our bait, except for two stragglers we landed after 30 minutes of trolling. Two Kings were enough; we gave up and moved on to 350 ft of water. It was not long before our King Mackerel went down whole to attract another species. One hour passed before the ballon went under, in other words, we got the bite! I set the hook as Bill got situated in the chair, then the battle began. The outcome was a brutal fight with a big Hammerhead Shark.

There’s no better way to celebrate your buddies bachelor party than to be in Fort Lauderdale fishing on a beautiful day. Sean, Joe and the rest of their gang joined the Lady Pamela I with Captain Justin and Adam for some rod bending. That’s all Sean asked for and he got it.
Total Catch = 18 good size Mahi - Mahi

John and his buddies traveled from Ontario, Canada to soak up the sun in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They were looking to head offshore to Swordfish grounds but the weather wasn’t agreeing; it was way too rough so we decided kite fishing was our next best option. We hit the blue edge on the reef with live goggle eyes in 150 - 180 ft of water. Conditions were perfect to hook up with a fish quickly. It wasn’t long before John battled his first Sailfish and a few King Mackerel for good measure.

Sean, his father, Wes and his wife came fishing aboard the Lady Pamela II to try out our new fighting chair that everybody’s talking about. Once we cleared Port Everglades, trolling gear went in the water and we headed north. The first hour of fishing was a total tease; five bites and no fish! Our next move was to a wreck. The state of Florida sinks ship wrecks for artificial reefs. These wrecks are home to several species such as Grouper, Snapper, Game Sharks, Cobia, Amberjacks and Wahoo. Our first drop on a shipwreck and we were in the same boat, a bite but no fish. Captain Paul made another attempt and we finally got hooked. “Go ahead!” I got the okay to push the boat ahead and pull the fish out of the wreck for a fight. Wes’ wife jumped in the chair and landed a nice AJ. We finally got a fight out of this spot and we weren’t moving, we went for round two. Captain Paul did it again. Sean gave up his turn to Wes and we hooked another big fish on the wreck. In the mist of all this, I hooked a Mahi from the bridge and passed the rod off to Sean. Talk about action. There’s nothing like two friends battling for first fish in the boat.

This afternoon, the Lady Pamela II had a 5 PM - 9 PM Tarpon trip with John, his father, John Sr. and his brother. It doesn’t get dark until about 6 PM in Fort Lauderdale so I mentioned trolling for an hour or so before the sun set and they were excited to fish both sides, offshore and inshore. Once we reached 100 ft of water, Adam put the trolling gear out with fresh bonito strips, mylar seawitches and two planters, one 50 ft below the surface and one 60 ft below. We circled the buoy three times before we got a hit and Adam set the hook. John jumped in front of his dad to get in the fighting chair and begin the battle. I backed the boat down to the Sailfish so the guys could get a few pictures then we performed tag and release for a future fight. As the sun started to set, we headed for the flat inshore in search of a Tarpon. We sat on the shallow flat for three hours without a nibble but the bite out front made it all worth while.

I look forward to hooking you guys up with a Tarpon in the future!

On Thursday morning at 6 AM, we left Fort Lauderdale with a boat load of guys for a weekend Bimini fishing trip. Mike, Brian, Alan, Josh and there two buddies had never been to Bimini, let alone fished Bimini, they were about to have the time of their lives. Once we cleared customs, we headed back offshore to fill the cooler with dinner. Captain Paul, aka “Mr. Barracuda”, couldn’t get away from them, it was one after another. At the end of the day, we tried some big bait fishing with big gear hoping for a big bite. Within just one hour of Big Game Shark fishing, we were hooked. A giant Tiger Shark teased us for a little while before it released itself and disappeared. So we tried again and it worked. Round two came quick and Alan landed the first Big Game Shark of the trip, a 5 footer with a serious set of teeth. After our stellar catch, it was time to head back to the island and let the guys experience their first night in the Bahamas; six buddies and lots of booze in Bimini = lots of fun.

Day two approached us pretty quickly but we were anxious for the bite. Fishing was much slower than we like it to be and dinner was not in the box. A few Barracuda ate along with five Amberjacks before we suspended the kites with live Bluerunner. We crossed our fingers for a Billfish or a beefy Wahoo but got another big bite from Game Shark #2. Mike jumped in the chair and made a bet to Captain Paul that if he couldn’t get the fish in the boat, Captain Paul would have to dish up $2,000. If he did, Mike was going to hand it over in one lump sum. They should never underestimate the crew; Captain Paul is a big guy with years of big game fishing experience. Team crew succeeded with a giant Bull Shark!

After a full night of partying on North Bimini, our gang met us at the Blue Water docks for day three of fishing. The seas picked up with 7 ft rollers and I saw sea sickness in their future. Once we pulled off the dock, Mike started to chum behind the boat to attract anything and it wasn’t long before it worked. A White Marlin swam in our spread and all I heard was “FISH ON!” The left flat line was on fire with a nice size White and we were ready to fight. Brian got in the chair and battled with his first and our first White Marlin for 30 minutes before he won. Day three started out with a bang and ended right after. Mike called it a day and we headed back to the dock after our first bite.

Sunday morning we loaded up and were Florida bound, but the excitement didn’t end in Bimini. Just 10 miles west of the Island we got a bite…a big bite. Another White Marlin jumped on our line and we were now 2 for 2 on the Billfish. We fished all the way home to the states without another nibble. Fishing in the Bahamas never lets us down!

Yo David,
You and Paul were terrific. I thought ya’ll were more organized and the most friendly and professional crew I have ever had the pleasure of working with and this includes inside and outside the US. I have already spoken to some of my fishing buddies and they are up for coming back to Florida to have ya’ll take us out .
Respectfully,
Dr Lee S.

Dr. Lee and his four buddies joined the Lady Pamela II for his 50th birthday celebration in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. With our solid Sailfish bite, goggle eyes were a good decision. We loaded up with live bait and headed offshore to 170ft of water. Fishing was slow for the first hour then out of no where it was a feeding frenzy just feet from a freight ship. One minute everyone was just enjoying the weather, the next we had two Sails in our spread. Captain Paul set the hook and Dr. Lee fought his first Sailfish ever over the water in our new and improved fighting chair.

If you think our pictures came out great, imagine all that action happening right in front of your eyes while you’re suspended over the water. After our meet and greet, we released the Billfish back into the blue and went on our way with trolling gear in 180 - 240 ft of water. Bonito fish were swimming in herds around the boat along with a smaller Wahoo.

Happy Birthday Dr. Lee, I look forward to fishing with you guys again.
