Today was one of those days where you just say to yourself “Today is going to be a great day on the water.” We had a great group of customers on board, the weather was absolutely beautiful and the fish were biting…big time!
Repeat clients from Dallas came back for more this year. A great group of people join the Lady Pamela II every August for a day on the water and some fun in the sun.

We headed out the Inlet, seas were flat as glass and the Kings and Bonitos weren’t hiding. Loads of fish were being caught anywhere from 5 – 10 lb’s. We reached our limit in no time at all and dipped into our well full of live Speedo’s and Bluerunner’s for wreck fishing. Our first drop of the day produced a great fight between our angler and a 30 lb Almaco Jack.

Second drop was a no go. On the third drop we got a monster bite. The rod bent over immediately and line was steaming off the reel. It was like playing tug-a-war, but great fun. After a long battle and watching the rod tip touch the water a few times, a huge Warsaw Grouper popped up like a balloon and we won the fight.

Paul and his buddy from Chicago set sail aboard the Lady Pamela II for a Fort Lauderdale fishing adventure. Dave, the mate, rigged up several nice baits to troll once they cleared Port Everglades. The Kings bit alongside the Bonitos for Paul and his friend. As fish were hitin’ the deck left and right, a Sailfish started chasing the right rigger bait looking to eat. Dave started feeding the Sail immediately and they were hooked. In the mist of all this action, Paul got a bite from another Sail on the planner. Double header baby! Both fish started dancing for the crowd, Paul and his buddy were ecstatic.

This morning the Lady Pamela II set sail with a Joe and his daughter from Wisconsin and Scott and his friend from Ohio. As we headed out Port Everglades, Joe asked if we caught Marlin or Sailfish in Fort Lauderdale. I explained to him the seasonal fish, Sailfish bite in the winter time, usually. If you’re lucky, a summertime Sailfish will swim into your spread. Trolling gear went out as soon as we hit open water and the fish were right there waiting to eat. King Mackerel and Bonito were solid offshore. Everybody aboard was reeling one in after another and all of a sudden one rod bent over and we were hooked to something bigger than a Bonito. Right before Joe’s eyes, a Sailfish started jumping within feet of the transom. How ironic is what I was thinking! We fought the Sail to the boat and released it for the upcoming season.

Mike from Jersey and his buddy James from Fort Lauderdale came fishing aboard the Lady Pamela II with their two boys in hopes of landing a Barracuda. The reef was on fire with Kings and Bonitos. The boys got a true South Florida workout before we moved onto wreck fishing. Wreck number one produced a nice 12 lb Mutton Snapper.

The boys liked dropping the baits deep and waiting for the bite so we wreck hoped and waited for the next fish to come over the side. When we hit wreck number two, we were in the right place at the right time. The rod started screamin’, line was peeling off the reel and James’ son got in the chair. He reeled in a 100 lb Warsaw Grouper to end their Deep Sea Fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Big fish Guys!

Captain David, Captain Paul,
Thanks for a great day fishing. My sons and I will treasure the experience and the memories for a long time.
My sons and I just wanted to spend the last day of our vacation together, so we signed up for an afternoon on Lady Pamela II. We were just happy that the water was calm, and hoping to catch a few fish and spend a relaxing afternoon before heading home. Thanks to the experience of the crew, who knew just where to go, and what bait to use, and how to fish for the trophies, we had an action-filled afternoon, landing about a dozen nice-sized fish, and losing one to a shark and another to a school of porpoises. But the highlight of the afternoon was the two trophy sailfish that we hooked. They were so majestic, and fought so valiantly, and occupied the entire crew and all five of us who were fishing … making way for the trophies as they swam all around fighting for all their worth. The clear blue sky and the deep blue sea and brilliant Florida sun reflected off the sailfish as it swam and leaped from the water, causing us all to admire their beauty and their fight. We all learned with the first fish that sportfishing is a team sport, everyone taking turns reeling in and landing fish, and clearing the deck whenever someone else hooked a trophy. And we also enjoyed the more leisurely fishing over the shipwrecks after several hours of trolling with the outriggers. If you’re looking for an incredible sportfishing experience, I highly recommend Captain David and Captain Paul and the Lady Pamela II. Just don’t go out there expecting too much relaxation, since you’ll be too busy reeling in all the kingfish, bonita, blackfin tunas and sailfish. The shark got away this time, but I know where we’ll be going on our next sportfishing trip, right back out on Lady Pamela II.
Again thanks for a great day of sportfishing, and we’ll be back to catch that damn shark next year!
Greg F.

Awesome catch guys! Hope to see you soon…until then…

Tim and his son from Georgia, Eric and his wife from Missouri and Brian from Fort Lauderdale joined the Lady Pamela II for a 4 hour adventure this morning. The Bluerunners were solid! In was non-stop action from the moment we caught our first bait fish until we filled the well with 18 Bluerunners. Once we checked live bait off the list, we headed north trolling for whatever we could get our hands on. The reef was solid with King Mackerels anywhere from 8-12 lb’s. There was also a Remora and a small Barracuda thrown into the mix, which is always a good sign. As soon as we reached our limit on the Kings, we headed to a wreck for something bigger. After our third wreck, we thought we got hung on the bottom, but we were wrong…it was just one helluva fish. Justin jumped in the chair and fought a 50 lb Amberjack all the way to the boat.

Nice catch Justin!

As we entered into August, seas were flat as glass and the fishing was phenomenal, producing Kingfish and Bonito for all. The Bonito bite is still strong and steady with the Kings by their side. Get your Bonito fix in now and save those strips for later because September is right around the corner and the bite should come to a halt here shortly. Kingfish on the other hand will remain on the reefs and will continue to bite anywhere from 30 – 60 feet below the surface. Trolling is the most common way to land a Kingfish and the Lady Pamela II has been successful with 8 – 10 lb’ers coming over the side along with a few bigger Mackerels in the 25 -40 lb range. Not only have the Kings been hitin’ the deck left and right, the Blackfin Tuna have showed themselves quite nicely this month. Blackfin Tuna provide excellent sport on light tackle and a hefty 50 lb’er on the line is common. Blackfin flesh is a bit dark but extremely tasty sushi style.

The image of several Sailfish release flags flying from the rigger plays nicely against a South Florida winter sky. However, anyone who thinks Sailfish are strictly cold-weather species might want to reconsider. Spindlebeaks aren’t just for guys in grundens. For the past several summers, a growing number of Sailfish have been caught from Palm Beach to the Upper Keys. Yet, the bite is nowhere better than off the coast of Fort Lauderdale and Miami during the summer months. This must be how the name “Sailfish Alley” came about for Broward and Dade County. August hasn’t given us much wind to work with, but we did have a few days where it was blowing enough to fly the kites and get our hands on a few jumping Sailfish. Winter is creeping up behind us and the Lady Pamela II is excited to see what the season has in store for us.

Although spring is high season for Game Sharks, the August bite hasn’t been too shabby. We’ve caught a handful of Game Sharks offshore that didn’t give in easily and put up a wicked fight.

Hi Captain Dave,
Just got back to Atlanta and wanted to send you pictures of the big catch. I can’t believe I caught an 8’ golden hammerhead shark. It was my dream to catch a shark – I watch about sharks whenever they are on tv.
From Thomas

The shipwrecks offshore have been holding heavy with loads of fish. Drop a fresh bait 350 ft deep and your chances of attracting an Amberjack is likely. Not only are Amberjacks hanging deep, Groupers flock to a well presented bait sitting on the bottom as well. Move into the shallow wrecks and the dinosaur Barracuda will hop on that bait and bend the rod.
The Wahoo bite has been incredible around the full moons. Wahoo are one of the tastiest eating fish and these fierce fighters will show you who’s boss on the water real quick, especially at 75 lb’s plus.
Mahi fishing is the talk of the town right now. It has been hit or miss, with a few small stray fish here and there, nothing to rave about, yet. The Lady Pamela II has been averaging about 10 Mahi per week anywhere from 5 – 20 lb’s. The delicious Dolphin haven’t chugged it this way yet, but we are still hoping for a big run of hungry fish next month.
Sea ya on the water…

Hi Captain Dave,
When we woke up on Wednesday morning, who knew we’d be ending the day with our 9-year old son catching an 8’ shark! Who would have thought. It was an amazing experience. Justin and Paul were great and really made this a lifetime memory for all of us. For days now, he just keeps saying, “Oh my gosh.” As do most kids at his age, Thomas loves to play baseball and dreams of being a pro player. After our trip, he now says he wants to be a pro deep sea fisherman!
Please feel free to use any of the photos on your site or send in for an article to local paper. We’d love a copy of anything you end up with.

Summertime Sailfish
The image of several Sailfish release flags flying from the rigger plays nicely against a South Florida winter sky. However, anyone who thinks Sailfish are strictly cold-weather species might want to reconsider. Spindlebeaks aren’t just for guys in grundens. For the past several summers, a growing number of Sailfish have been caught from Palm Beach to the Upper Keys. Yet, the bite is nowhere better than off the coast of Fort Lauderdale and Miami during the summer months. This must be how the name “Sailfish Alley” came about for Broward and Dade County.

This afternoon John and Ms. Crowford joined the Lady Pamela II for Deep Sea Fishing offshore Fort Lauderdale. Once we cleared Port Everglades, trolling gear was in the water and it was time to reel in some fish. The Kings and Bonitos were coming through strong. In the mist of our King and Bonito action, Andrew noticed a Sailfish swim into our spread, it was a nice surprise. Andrew teased the fish to the boat, fed it and we were hooked. The Sail started its parade of jumps right before our eyes. After a nice show and a good fight, we got the Sailfish to the boat and the girls got a good look at the purple-ish, blue shades these fish are famous for.

The Atlantic Sailfish swam away a happy camper and trolling gear went back in the water immediately. Not even 15 minutes after Sailfish number one, another Sailfish jumped on our bait and John called dibs on the rod. John was all smiles as fought his first pelagic fish to the transom.

Awesome catch!

Summertime has brought hot weather and red hot fishing to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This morning Dan and his two sons from Texas joined Captain Darin aboard the Frequent Flyer II. Lines went in the water once they marked 100 ft offshore. The Kingfish and Bonito were the first to eat along with two Barracudas.

After the Kings and Bonitos made their presence, a nice size fish ate on the right. Dan’s son reeled the planner right to the rod tip and landed a nice size Wahoo. It didn’t put up much of a fight but man was it a nice fish!

Repeat anglers Dan and little Dan came fishing aboard the Lady Pamela II. Dad wanted some good table fare and little Dan wanted consistent action. Day one was awesome. The reef was solid with Kings and Bonitos. We ran out to 450 ft of blue water and prayed to the fish god for a Wahoo. Within 10 minutes of trolling, a big Summertime Sailfish came up and ate. The pelagic was hooked for about 2 minutes before it pulled the hook. Little Dan wanted to go hunt for his Game Shark so I rigged up a few big baits and we trolled 10 miles north. I dropped the baits down and we all sat their patiently and waited for the bite. Finally! We got the bite little Dan wanted. The rod bent over and the reel started screamin’. Captain Paul set the hook as little Dan got situated in the chair. Little Dan got to fight a Nurse Shark bigger than him. Not only was it bigger than him, it was bigger than his sisters’ Sandbar Shark and that made his day.

Day two wasn’t as exciting. We went offshore in search of a Wahoo for Dad but never came across one, not even a bite. We landed 6 small Cuda’s and that was it.

See you guys soon!
